The building provides classrooms for a variety of academic departments in the College of Architecture. The improvements included addressing the architectural needs of the occupants to meet the regulatory requirements related to the Texas Accessiblity Standards (TAS), mechanical, electrical, and plumbing upgrades of outdated systems, fire and life safety, deferred maintenance needs in the building, as well as upgrades to the elevators.
The project included the installation of sanitary piping under the existing slab on grade. We discovered voids under the slab, which was failing at certain areas. The engineer of record issued a report and provided options to address this issue. We used the mud-jacking option because it was the most cost-effective method. We identified the areas that had problems, and the trade contractor drilled two-inch holes to inject a grout mix of select fill and cement under the slab.
