The new Harrison Administration Building, consisting of one two-story wing and one three-story wing, features the offices of the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor, among other offices, and support spaces for staff. The exterior uses the campus material palette of blended blond brick and cast stone details, crowned with a red tile roof. A large arched opening, flanked by an impressive tower, and two-story carved bay windows at the east and west end, accent the building.
The exterior façade, comprised of 8,216 pieces of cast stone, required extensive exterior steel for support. We compared the design team’s cast stone model against the steel supplier’s model. Working with the design team, the skin contractor, and the steel contractor, we identified whether the steel structure could support the cast stones. We identified any unsupported or protruding pieces and addressed these issues before materials arrived on site, which minimized RFIs, delays, and scope changes.
