The Owner had an existing unused building with six floors and a basement that had been demolished to the structural columns and exterior walls. We were hired to reactivate the building for use by the hospital. We replaced all exterior windows and the roof, recladded the exterior skin of the building, replaced all MEP systems, and restored elevator and stairwell access to the spaces. We then built out laboratory, medical records, and administrative spaces.
We added a second floor connecting bridge above an existing, occupied first floor building. We structurally reinforced nearly every beam of the existing building to carry the load of the second floor. We utilized temporary enclosures, shutting down half the corridor at a time to erect the steel between each column while leaving the remaining half of the corridor open to pedestrian traffic. Then, we erected the new structure, curtain wall, and roof to build out the new bridge.
