Project Overview

This two-level vertical hospital expansion consisted of 60,000 SF of core and shell build-out and 34,000 SF of patient care build-out. The new patient care area includes 21 patient rooms and three VIP patient rooms, an observation core area comprised of 10 post-op observation rooms and the build-out of office, storage, and conference room space. We also renovated 21 existing dual occupancy patient rooms into private patient suites.

Unique Challenge

The vertical expansion required significant shutdowns in the operating hospital. We conducted weekly coordination meetings regarding dates and durations of shutdowns for elevators, stairwells, and MEPF services. To maintain the hospital’s operations, we phased the shutdowns and scheduled them over weekends and holidays when the hospital’s patient load was low and the shutdowns would have the least effect on occupants. We performed all structural upgrades on each level of the existing hospital in the evenings.
