The new eight-story Clinical Services Wing of the Jennie Sealy Hospital replaced major clinical support services located throughout various areas of the existing hospital complex. The new facility houses administrative offices for admitting, care management, epidemiology, hospital ethics, patient services, risk management, and volunteer services. It also includes clinical support activities such as blood bank, pharmacy, central sterile processing, respiratory care, materials management, environmental services, clinical engineering services, linen, patient transport, and food service.
We shared a construction site with another general contractor who was building a new hospital wing concurrently. The two buildings were approximately six feet apart and connected in some areas. Coordination of tower cranes, material delivery routes, concrete pours, and other logistics became paramount. The two companies held joint construction meetings to review and compare schedules.
