The welcome center is the main entry to the UHD campus and houses admissions, disabilities services, veteran affairs, and a glass-enclosed, 135-seat testing and orientation center. The center showcases the university’s art gallery, featuring a 29x36-foot permanent installation by a local artist. The welcome center sits atop a four-story, 252-space parking garage connected to the third floors of the One Main and Academic buildings via skywalk and can support an additional level for future expansion.
We needed to lower an existing driveway by three feet and place new utilities beneath it to support our new construction. But the Owner wanted the driveway open for their use at all times except for one week during spring break. We prepared the site around the driveway up to that week, then quickly removed formwork, installed overhead electrical and soffits, and all trades worked around the clock to replace and reopen the driveway in one week.
