We constructed an additional level of parking on top of an existing, operational four-story parking garage to support the newly completed Interdisciplinary Research and Education Building, also built by Vaughn. The additional level is comprised of a concrete slab on metal deck. We also installed electrical and plumbing infrastructure for the new level, constructed a barrier cable system and metal panel screen wall, and extended the elevator to the additional floor.
The Owner’s aggressive timeline to complete the project before semester start was not feasible. As a solution, we offered to complete the project in two phases. We completed the additional level of parking on time for use on the first day of school and completed the elevator extension and metal panel installation by the second substantial due date. Our ability to compromise and adjust for tight timelines satisfied the university's needs without compromising quality.
