This research facility is dedicated to stopping infectious microorganisms that threaten our state's economy, our nation's food supply, and the health of humans and animals worldwide. The facility is home to ACL 2, BSL 2, ABSL 2, ACL 3, BSL 3 and BSL 3AG laboratories for conducting large animal biocontainment research. It includes two large animal necropsy areas, servicing the ABSL 2 and BSL 3AG labs, a large animal BSL 2 surgical suite, and a mock training lab.
Because the interior walls for the BSL-3Ag lab area were constructed with concrete, all MEP, life safety, telemetry and architectural items required 100 percent coordination prior to wall construction. The BSL-3Ag lab block was sectioned into 18 separate wall pours. We used BIM to coordinate all trades in elevation. Once the design team approved these coordination drawings, we used them in wall pour coordination meetings and used them for quality control field checks of embed locations.
