This laboratory building provides additional research facilities for the refinery's organics and inorganics product development groups. Our work included a 35,000 SF research laboratory, 3,600 SF expansion of the existing high bay laboratory within the plant, modifications to the existing west laboratory, associated site work required for modification of a detention pond, placement and access to the new building additions, utility plant connections and other site modifications.
Elements of the laboratory expansion and utility plant connections required us to work inside the operational refinery’s footprint. Given the refinery’s stringent safety procedures with OSHA, our main challenge was ensuring our entire team, including trade contractors, understood the environment and complied with the Owner’s procedures. We facilitated trainings through the SW Louisiana Area Safety Council and held monthly safety meetings with guest speakers from the plant to maintain alertness and to ensure a safe construction site.
