This new academic medical center is dedicated to personalized cancer therapies for pancreatic cancer research. The 12-story building features two laboratory wings and two office wings surrounding a central collaboration space. An exterior corridor connects the two research wings maximizing the laboratories' flexibility to accommodate new and evolving methodologies. We constructed the building core and shell, built out five floors of laboratories and associated support space, and installed the MEP infrastructure for additional lab space.
The laboratory tower mechanical penthouses required very large mechanical duct plenums due to the total cubic feet per minute (CFM) circulating in the HVAC systems. We utilized a BIM model to coordinate the ductwork and adjacent services. Our model accurately depicted the complete HVAC system and support/access structure, allowing multiple parties to review the model and provide critical input on the final system. The issues resolved in the model allowed an expedited and higher quality final installation.
