Lonza Viral-Based Therapeutics, Product and Research Development Laboratories
Project Details
Client: Lonza Viral-Based Therapeutics
Architect: Energy Architecture
Location: Houston, TX
Delivery: Design-Build
Status: Completed
Project Overview
We built out existing shell space into product and research development laboratories. Our work involved installing two new dedicated air handling units, an exhaust fan, electrical services, and laboratory gases. The Houston location houses the company's viral-based therapeutics activities, including process development and scale-up, cGMP production, analytical assays, and regulatory support related to viral vector gene therapy and viral vaccine applications.
Unique Challenge
After construction began on this seven-month project, Lonza requested we accelerate the schedule to accommodate early occupancy of numerous employees being relocated from other states. We held multiple planning sessions with Lonza and the trade contractors in which we evaluated schedule scenarios to ensure the most cost-effective approach to perform overtime, focusing on critical path items. Then, our entire team worked extended and weekend hours to beat Lonza’s requested occupancy date by more than two weeks.
