This new laboratory and office building serves as the front door to the 200-acre research campus. The building provides laboratory space including BSL-2 and BSL-3 containment laboratories, office and technical support space, and unfinished shell space. The new facility provides eight laboratories for research concerning tuberculosis, heart disease, diabetes, and AIDS. The expansion allows the institute to grow its research in stem cell use.
We were hired to build this facility without the involvement of end users. But after construction began, the Owner added a BSL-3 suite for a new end user. Despite a severely compressed schedule, we worked with the controls contractor and engineer to program a sequence of operations for directional air flow that we have proven out on numerous BSL-3 projects. The official commissioning took place the day of substantial completion and took only four hours to complete.
