This new three-story, steel structure facility, supports Blinn College’s high-demand science and engineering programs. The facility houses 14 classrooms, 23 administrative offices, five science prep rooms, and an 18,900 SF space for 14 laboratories. It also houses a 3,000 SF innovation center, an open learning environment for the hands-on application of virtual reality and robotic technologies. A green roof provides students with an outdoor study area that includes a lawn, vegetation, seating, and electric outlets.
The February 2021 winter storm’s subzero temperatures damaged many of the facility’s utilities as the building’s air conditioning and heating systems had not yet been commissioned. Many water lines in the facility froze and/or ruptured, amounting to an approximately three-week schedule delay. The Monday following the storm, we hosted a meeting with the mechanical/plumbing contractor and drywall contractor to immediately address damaged lines and drywall. Additionally, several trade contractors (mechanical/plumbing, drywall, flooring, finishers) worked seven days a week for three months to ensure we completed the project on time.
