The first of three buildings on UHD’s 17-acre north campus, this facility houses programs in chemical and molecular life sciences and engineering. The interior space features open common areas and encourages collaboration among science disciplines with 14 teaching labs, 14 research labs, three computational labs, 12 huddle spaces, 18 faculty offices, a dean's suite, a multi-purpose room, and a first-floor café. The facility is served by a new central plant we constructed to support future expansion.
The building design included atrium openings between Levels 1 - 2 and Levels 3 - 4. Prior to placing the atrium openings, we had to lay out the steel within the wall around them. While laying out the first opening, we realized the structural and architectural drawings did not match. Using a robot, we precisely coordinated the atrium openings with the architect’s CAD file, ensuring an exact match and keeping the steel and concrete placement on schedule.
