Project Overview
This new education center on Texas A&M University System's RELLIS campus features dedicated laboratories for biology, physics, chemistry, and biochemistry. The building also includes a learning/testing center, individual study rooms, classrooms, gathering spaces, and several faculty offices. Adorned with masonry, glass, and metal panels, the building is situated beautifully on the north side of the campus on 15 acres of land, which has been set aside for the Blinn College District to continue its growth.
Unique Challenge
The building’s design included high ceilings in the main corridor, which limited the above-ceiling space available for the installation of ductwork, plumbing lines, and light fixtures. Lowering the ceiling heights by one foot to accommodate the light fixture would affect the heights of the interior storefront. Using building information models, we identified specific clashes and strategically re-routed the ductwork, sprinkler piping, and hot and chilled water piping to accommodate the light fixture installations.
