This new building allows UTMB to consolidate their schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions, and Graduate Biomedical Sciences into one central location. Level One houses an ambulance bay to simulate emergency scenarios, open study spaces, and a cafe. Levels Two and Three have simulation spaces on the north side and large, configurable learning studios on the south side. Levels Four and Five primarily consist of simulation spaces.
The proposed building site had extensive existing utilities below grade. We hired a potholing contractor to verify depth and location of all surrounding utilities and integrated them into our BIM model for coordination with the building foundations and proposed site utilities. Our investigation confirmed we needed to relocate an existing water main and telecom duct bank prior to drilling auger cast piles. Our model also allowed us to pre-fabricate hydronic piping to tie into the existing utilities.
