Project Overview

This facility offers a space for the university to provide a unique form of medical education that combines the benefits of modern medicine with technology, focusing on health promotion and disease prevention. The first level features a two-story lobby with a mezzanine-level common area, active learning classrooms with 360-degree views, and a teaching theater. Level Two is comprised of training and skills labs, trauma and operating simulation rooms with separate control rooms, care provider stations, and exam rooms. Level Three houses the facility’s administrative functions and Level Four houses research and gross anatomy labs.

Unique Challenge

The building had to be completed before the medical school would be allowed to apply for its accreditation and begin enrolling students. To meet the aggressive schedule, we developed a guaranteed maximum price based on schematic design documents and started construction from design development drawings. We expedited our start date by proposing five bid packages and using design-assist services for portions of work such as MEPF, exterior glazing, and architectural precast. This strategy allowed us to begin work four months early.
