This phased project spanned three buildings and involved renovation of the 71,300 SF Cowles Science Building, demolition of two buildings to make way for a new five-level, 91,500 SF addition to the existing Center for Sciences and Innovation Building, and a 7,500 SF renovation of the Marrs-McClean Science Center. New spaces include a vivarium, bioresearch laboratories, classroom and conference space, a machine shop, and an innovation center.
This project included over 45 laboratory classrooms. We used one classroom as a mock-up to help the Owner and design team make critical modifications for the remaining two phases of laboratory classroom build outs. Additionally, we laser scanned all buildings to ensure we had enough space for above-ceiling MEP equipment. Our resulting BIM model identified discrepancies between existing conditions and new systems allowing us to reconfigure components virtually and prevent disruption of specimens and research.
