The goal of this project was to construct a single building large enough to consolidate tenants from different agencies. The ground floor of the nine-story office building contains conference rooms. The upper floors consist of state-of-the-art office spaces that overlook downtown Austin. We also built a 1,850-space parking garage.
The building adjacent to the project houses a data center that controls all Medicare and Medicaid transactions in Texas, handles nearly half of all state budget spending, and plays a vital role in the state’s economy. The telecommunications duct bank serving the data center was located within the footprint of the new building; but relocating it could have disrupted the data center. To avoid the risk, we shifted the building to a different part of the site. We flagged the location of the duct bank and carefully planned all excavations within 30 feet of it. These precautions resulted in a successful build with no service interruptions to the adjacent building.
