Upgrades included replacement of utility transformers serving the building's normal power systems for data centers and office buildings and replacement of the main switchgear for the towers, Building C's normal power systems, and additions of emergency power systems to the central plant and all life safety systems. We added emergency paralleling gear and two 750kW generators to back up the mission critical data center loads. We also renovated 11 break rooms and replaced 100 door frames.
Our project team faced numerous challenges during this project including extensive coordination with the utility provider, Austin Energy, for over a year to design the new utility services. We managed existing conditions which were unknown until many of the phased electrical outages took place. We routed wire pathways and monitored new emergency systems not included in the original scope, and provided additional temporary power to data centers during construction-related outages that were not originally intended.
