This biological sciences building provides state-of-the-art teaching labs, including 40,000 SF of faculty research space. The building also includes classrooms, lecture halls, computer rooms, study spaces, a department administrative suite, faculty offices, and an outdoor rain garden and green space. The facility reflects the quality of the teaching and research programs of the Department of Biological Sciences and the College of Sciences and integrates instruction and research into a living building that is sustainable and flexible.
This project site had a grade change in excess of 20 feet from one side of the site to the other, limiting laydown space. Additionally, one side of the building cut into the ground at Level 1 and ground level on the other side of the building was at Level 2. To accommodate materials and equipment, we developed site maps and assigned laydown space for each trade contractor. We used the more sloped sections for equipment storage and parking.
