Project Overview

The 643,000 SF, 12-story parking garage expansion adds 1,800 parking spaces for Houston Methodist Hospital staff working in the nearby TMC campus. The new garage is an independent structure connected to the existing eight-level garage.  A solar array installed on the roof level will generate the majority of the electricity required for the garage. Additional campus upgrades provided include existing driveway repairs, new traffic signals at intersection, and underground box culvert stormwater detention.

Unique Challenge

During construction, Houston Methodist approached the project team about adding solar panels to the top level of the Josie Roberts Building Garage. The project team embraced this request and incorporated a solar panel array into the project. We successfully streamlined a design into the garage that featured 876 solar panels in the form of a canopy system on level 12 without impacting Houston Methodist’s ability to begin parking cars by the original completion date.
