Project Overview

Parcel I Parking Garage is an impressive building at Texas Medical Center’s (TMC) third campus, Helix Park. TMC Helix Park works to advance medical knowledge and improve lives through scientific research and collaboration. The 10-story, 644,589 SF Parcel I Parking Garage, designed with unique yellow beams, columns, and vertical lines, allows visitors to park close and quickly access Helix Park, the 37-acre life science campus.

Unique Challenge

We built the parking garage on top of a 1.1 million cubic foot detention tank comprising 75 percent of the garage footprint. Due to the previous construction’s excavation consuming much of the footprint, geotechnical requirements dictated moving the foundations deeper to hit undisturbed soil. This requirement was much deeper than initially anticipated. Our teams redesigned the grade beams to include continuous footers and tied them into the existing foundation of the tower crane adjacent to these grade beams, which already had deep foundations.
