The Houston Business Journal’s Landmark Award recognizes Houston’s top commercial real estate projects of the previous year for their excellence in land planning, design, construction, economics, marketing and management, and their significant impact on Houston’s economy, development, visual plan, and environment. Out of 51 finalists in 19 categories, Vaughn projects won in three categories.
Medical Category: Howard Hughes Corporation, UT MD Anderson The Woodlands Regional Cancer Care Center. The new Woodlands care center has a warm and welcoming design that also meets the sensitive needs of cancer patients. The construction, valued at $84 million, features 208,000 SF of space dedicated to a women’s center, pharmacy, lab, radiation therapy, imaging, and much more. The architect was EYP.
Public Assembly Category: Texas A&M University at Galveston, Academic Building Phase Two. The campus needed a facility to accommodate large campus events and academic conferences. The new $45.6 million, 61,500 SF building includes a large multipurpose space, smaller seminar rooms, a business center, campus bookstore, light food service, and offices for the associate vice president of administration and auxiliary services. The architect was PGAL.
Education Building: University of Houston-Downtown, Sciences and Technology Building. With a construction value of $68 million, the new, 116,000 SF, four-story building expands the campus by approximately 17 acres. The pedestrian-friendly, sustainable design supports cohesion among the life sciences and engineering programs with teaching, research, and computational labs, huddle spaces, faculty offices, and an expansive multipurpose room. The architect was Kirksey.
