The 75,000 SF recreational and fitness space includes multi-purpose studios, cardio and weight rooms, and an indoor bouldering wall. The building features a three-court gymnasium on the first floor with an elevated indoor running track on the second floor, which opens to the gym below. The main entrance of the building provides access to a grand atrium that extends up to the third floor. Additional support spaces include locker rooms, a welcome desk, comfortable lounge seating, and staff offices.
The new Wellness and Success Center was a tremendous step forward in enhancing the overall quality of student life on campus. The previous Student Life Center was twenty-five years old and inadequate for the University of Houston-Downtown’s increasing enrollment. Constrained by a floodplain, the entire building was elevated 10 feet above grade. The Center’s striking design adds to the campus’ urban atmosphere.
