This building provides Texas State University’s film and media studies program with some much-needed space. The building contains instruction spaces, a film sound stage with a green screen, a computer lab, a television studio, and a recording studio with an isolation booth. The traditional steel frame building features an arched colonnade, cast-in-place concrete base with brick masonry, and cement plaster infill panels to provide a neutral backdrop for film posters. The building also has a three-sided courtyard overlooking its namesake—a grove of three live oak trees.
The project is located next to Aquarena Springs, an area known to contain early Native American artifacts. Our team discovered an arrowhead and spearhead while working on the site. To ensure potential artifacts were identified and treated with care, we coordinated with the Texas Historical Commission and the Texas State Archeological Department before proceeding with excavation activities. To avoid delays, we used a GPS to locate the site, watch our team dig, and screen the dirt as digging took place.
