We constructed this new bed tower adjacent to an existing, operational 40 000 SF convenient care center. The new tilt-wall facility includes a new entrance canopy, lobby, kitchen and dining area, cardiology suite, pharmacy and laboratory, surgery suites, medical/surgical beds, 64 new inpatient beds, and an intensive care unit. The building also contains ancillary support functions, such as a central sterile facility, conference center, business office, and central plant.
The design called for installation of three-story, tilt-wall panels and temporary bracing within inches of the existing occupied emergency center. We felt this approach was too risky to perform so close to an occupied space. We worked with the engineers to change the design from tilt-wall panels to cast-in-place panels. This modification allowed us to complete the building before installing the cast in place panels, eliminating liability and saving time on the project schedule.
