With its welcoming design, this new psychiatric treatment facility fills the need for improved mental healthcare across Texas. It consists of two patient room towers with single and double occupancy rooms, day rooms with in-unit nurse stations, group therapy rooms, seclusion and quiet rooms, visitor rooms, a therapy mall, pharmacy, and a protected outdoor courtyard. All patient areas are outfitted with anti-ligature components designed to protect building occupants but not appear institutional. The first floor includes administrative areas and an education center for medical students and staff.
The rain screen installer fell behind schedule and took 45 days to install the screen. We had only allotted 10 days in the schedule for this installation, but through our daily meetings with the field staff, we identified how much production they needed per day and specifically where they should be working. With this approach, we increased their pace exponentially; they finished the second elevation, which was the same size as the first, in approximately 15 days.
