This renovation involved an intensive care unit in the Green Zone on Level 7 of the Alkek Building. We renovated intensive care patient rooms, nurse stations, support spaces, offices, waiting rooms, classrooms, elevator lobbies, and public corridors. Because the facility remained fully operational during construction, we divided the project into seven phases to ensure minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
When we reviewed the original project phasing with the users, we identified several areas that could not be renovated due to operational constraints. To accommodate patient and staff flow throughout construction, we revised the phasing and provided the Owner with options and an anticipated schedule duration of each phase. Once we began construction, we continually revised the phasing plan throughout the life of the project to accommodate the changing needs of the ICU department.
