Project Overview

The existing building sustained significant damage from Hurricane Ike in 2008. We demolished the exterior skin and roofing system, taking the building down to the existing foundation and structural steel, and building it back as new office space. Several areas of the existing foundation had settled significantly, ranging from one to three inches. We coordinated, removed, and replaced approximately 3,500 SF of the interior slab-on-grade.

Unique Challenge

Prior to carpet installation, the trade contractor performed moisture testing on the existing concrete slab and elevated concrete deck. The moisture readings on the existing slabs exceeded the maximum allowable moisture for the specified carpet adhesive. Through timely coordination with our flooring trade contractors, we shot blasted the existing slab and applied a three-step vapor barrier system. We performed the floor remediation during evenings and weekends to minimize the effect on other trades and maintain the overall schedule.
