Project Overview

The expanded police department building provides space for increases in personnel and capabilities. The facility houses administrative spaces, filing rooms, an armory with a large metal cage to secure weapons, a gym and locker room, an evidence transfer room and processing room connected by a secured pass-through locker, and secured parking for personal and patrol vehicles. It also includes an emergency call center that operates 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

Unique Challenge

Extending the campus’s underground chilled water loop to the new police department would have posed drastic impacts to the schedule and cost. We used a Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) mechanical system that our project team had not previously constructed. We coordinated the implementation of the system with the Owner’s facilities department, mechanical engineer, the HVAC contractor, and the building automation and controls contractor. As a result, we provided a high-quality, unique system for this campus while circumventing extensive underground work.
