Project Overview

The new childcare facility provides childcare services for the growing numbers of hospital staff resulting from building additions and expansions. The building is framed from cold-formed metal, including the walls and field-fabricated roof trusses. The façade of the building is fiber-cement siding and aluminum storefront. Inside, the daycare houses six classrooms, an office area, and a breakroom. The project included the construction of three playgrounds with rubberized asphalt surfaces and subsurface drainage, and an approximately 50-space surface parking lot.

Unique Challenge

The project’s aggressive nine-month schedule was driven by the Owner’s contractual agreement with the childcare center’s occupants. Waiting on the manufacturer to prefabricate the cold-formed metal framed trusses and deliver them to the job site would have extended us past the non-negotiable due date. To mitigate this issue, the manufacturer delivered the raw materials for the trusses, which the trade contractor cut to fit and set them in place as needed. We closely oversaw this process to ensure we maintained the project’s critical schedule.
