The new single-story academic building provides a place for residents of eastern Collin County to access affordable higher education. The building, a steel structure with a masonry and glass envelope under a single-slope roof, contains a main lobby and atrium, spaces for classrooms, light laboratories, and a library. The project involved bringing power, water, and sanitation systems to the 75-acre greenfield site, installing a 200-space parking lot, new drainage flumes, culverts under the roadways, and a detention basin for run-off.
The main entry vestibule was 24 feet tall. The vestibule was comprised of structural steel, but only had light duty metal decking on top of it so it would not support the weight of any scaffolding or ladders. We found a boom lift that could fit through the entry doors and reach the high areas of the ceiling so we could install the light fixtures.
