Every year, the Austin chapter of Associated General Contractors hosts the Outstanding Construction Awards competition. Projects are judged on difficulty in construction resulting from design, location, materials, etc.; unusual construction techniques involved; final appearance and quality of the finished product; and timeliness of completion. We are pleased to announce that Vaughn has won two awards for the Williamson County, Children's Advocacy Center and Austin Community College Highland Campus, Make It Center.
Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center (WCCAC) in Georgetown provides a variety of services for children who have experienced physical abuse or a violent crime. The nonprofit organization provides hope, healing, and justice to impacted children and families. Vaughn served as construction manager-at-risk for the 15,000 SF expansion to their current 8,000 SF facility, allowing the organization to employ additional staff and provide the service the community needs.
The building is comprised of a slab-on-grade foundation with piers, a steel structure, a shingled roof, and a cement fiber board exterior with brick wainscot and columns. The expansion includes new medical examination rooms, spaces for counseling services, interview rooms, office space, and a meeting area. Our scope of work also included new flooring, new casework, parking, drainage/detention pond modifications, and custom decorative trees to align with WCCAC’s ‘Tree of Life’ theme.
Every month, Williamson County receives about 450 reports of child abuse. With this expansion, the WCCAC team can meet its goal of helping children in need. The building will serve as a longstanding, safe harbor for children when the worst things happen to them, allowing them to begin to heal.
Imagine an interactive place where you can discover your purpose. Step into firefighting gear to fight a virtual fire, try your hand at welding, design a food truck, or experience the thrill of saving a life. Vaughn Construction is so proud to have been selected with the design team to bring this vision to life and “Make It” for the Austin community. The Make It Center offers a world of career options as a place that will inform, a place that will inspire, a place that can turn passions into a career. Allowing students and community members to explore a range of career pathways that link interests, strengths, and passions to well-paying jobs in Central Texas.
“There are so many pathways and opportunities out there that people aren’t aware of or haven’t heard of. We don’t want the community just clocking in and out at a job. The Make It Center helps them find an exciting career and allows them to earn a living wage in Central Texas,” says former ACC Chancellor Dr. Richard Rhodes. “We’re working to help people find their purpose and make a career out of their passion.”
The 10,000 SF high-tech interactive space for prospective students contains audio-visual (A/V) holograms, virtual reality stations, display walls, and other high-end A/V equipment, complemented by custom metal panels and wood finishes.
We are honored to be recognized for these awards. Thank you, AGC!
