Baylor University opened its newly renovated Tidwell Bible Building, for which Vaughn served as the construction manager-at-risk, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 25. Students, alumni, faculty, and stakeholders gathered at the event and toured the building
The seven-story, 53,000 SF facility was built in 1954. The renovation dramatically expanded and modernized classrooms, provided collaboration spaces for students, and reorganized faculty offices to promote greater interaction with colleagues and students. The addition of a prayer chapel on the top floors provides a breathtaking view of campus. The Tidwell Bible Building enjoys all the best aspects of a new building, and countless reminders of its history scattered throughout.
With 68 limestone panels depicting biblical scenes from the Old and New Testament, the facility serves as a symbol of the university’s dedication to Christian ideals. Over the years, it housed the Miller Memorial Chapel and the religion, history, philosophy, sociology, and nursing departments. At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Dr. Livingstone said, “Nearly every Baylor University student has taken a class in this building since it opened.” Thus, renovating the iconic Tidwell Bible Building was a top priority for the university.
