Harris County and Ben Taub General Hospital celebrated the opening of the new Ben Taub Surgical Care Center during a ribbon cutting ceremony held on August 28, 2019. Vaughn served as the construction manager at risk for the $60 million project. Johnston Architects served as the architecture firm. Located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center, Ben Taub’s new surgical care center ushers in a new era of trauma and surgical care excellence for the people of Harris County, Texas. Dr. Kenneth L. Mattox, distinguished service professor at Baylor College of Medicine, chief of staff, and surgeon-in-chief at Ben Taub Hospital, said the new surgical care environment can accommodate nearly 6,600 procedures annually, including the most complex trauma, vascular, neurological, thoracic, and orthopedic surgeries. The new 74,425 SF space adds state-of-the-art operating suites including two larger, hybrid operating rooms, with sophisticated imaging technology, a blood bank, pharmacy, central sterile processing unit, 18 pre- and post-operative care beds, and an oral surgery clinic.
