Vaughn served as construction manager-at-risk for Texas A&M University’s new, state-of-the-art Instructional Laboratory & Innovative Learning Building, focused on science and art.
The 150,000 SF facility has 30 instructional laboratories for undergraduate students to take prerequisite chemistry classes. The labs contain specialized equipment for multiple levels of study, including gas chromatography, benchtop nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectrometry, and infrared spectrometry. The first two floors feature eight interdisciplinary art labs for traditional painting, drawing, and woodworking. To promote learning outside of formal teaching environments, the building includes study spaces for student and teacher collaboration.
"We are thrilled to work with Texas A&M again for this new project," said a Vaughn project manager. "Our goal was to WOW the client and exceed expectations. We're thankful for the opportunity to work with the university on this project that will connect science and art in one laboratory."
The center atrium of the building features a three-story glass wall with a grand staircase. The exterior is comprised of curtainwall, perforated metal panels, and brick with stone accents, mirroring the design of nearby facilities, including the Innovative Learning Classroom Building, which Vaughn also constructed. The new facility acts as a gateway to the west campus with extensive landscaping, hardscaping, and a water feature.
