Austin Community College (ACC) recently celebrated the completion of its Make It Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The new 10,000 SF center, which Vaughn served as construction manager-at-risk, is located inside ACC’s Highland Campus. The Make It Center provides visitors with hands-on opportunities to explore ACC’s programs and connect their interests to community workforce needs. Students can step into firefighting gear to fight a virtual fire, become a welder, design a food truck, or feel the adrenaline rush when saving a life.
Visitors toured the facility, saw exhibits, and participated in hands-on demonstrations of several Make It Center features, such as virtual reality experiences, as part of the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“There are so many pathways and opportunities out there that people aren’t aware of or haven't heard of,” said ACC Chancellor Dr. Richard Rhodes. “We don’t want the community just clocking in and out at a job. The Make It Center helps them find an exciting career and allows them to earn a living wage in Central Texas.”
Through hands-on career exploration, the Make It Center allows students and the community to pursue their passions, find their purpose, and discover educational pathways.
A grand opening for the public is planned for this fall.
