Memorial Hermann Hosts Ceremonial Kickoff for Seven-Floor Sarofim Pavilion Buildout

Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, part of the Memorial Hermann Health System, recently held a ceremonial kickoff for the 350,000 SF buildout of the Sarofim Pavilion, for which Vaughn serves as construction manager-at-risk.

The seven-floor expansion will significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity to deliver specialized care, including pediatric services, oncology, NICU wards, neurology, CT imaging, and epilepsy monitoring.

Leaders and representatives from Memorial Hermann, Vaughn Construction, Broaddus & Associates, Page, and other community stakeholders gathered to celebrate the start of this transformative project.

“This project is deeply personal to me,” said a Vaughn superintendent.  “Coming back to a building that we finished five years ago and finishing it out from top to bottom is incredibly rewarding. From NICU to cardiovascular and CT rooms, this hospital will offer something to heal everyone. The Owner has big plans for this campus, and this project is a true launchpad for future growth and healing.”

Jason Glover, CEO of Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, emphasized the strategic importance of the buildout. “We will relocate our neuroscience and oncology programs, as well as the Children’s Heart Institute,” he explained. “This expansion integrates new technology, modern infrastructure, and innovative workflows to support our care teams and improve patient outcomes.”

“This growth is about [investing in] our people and our programs,” said Dr. Emily Weber, interim CEO of Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. “The Children’s Heart Institute is a cornerstone of the Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, and this move allows us to expand its reach. We are excited to serve more pediatric patients and continue delivering world-class heart care.”

The staff at the Sarofim Pavilion play a critical role in providing life-saving care for critically ill and injured patients. The expansion will support the growth of heart and vascular services across the Texas Medical Center. The project is slated for substantial completion in 2027.

“It means a lot to return to a building we helped bring to life,” said a Vaughn senior project manager. “I’m excited to see the next generation of builders grow their skills and gain valuable experience through this project.”
